Famagusta’s district licensing authority says it completed 646 building-permit applications between January and September 2026, compared with 461 during the whole of 2025. That is 185 more completed applications, or 40.1% above last year’s full-year total with three months of 2026 still remaining. September alone produced 120 completed building applications, which the authority described as its highest monthly result since the organisation began operating.
The wider licensing picture also strengthened. Category 1 development cases, which include planning and building matters, reached 1,070 completed applications by the end of September, compared with 926 in all of 2025, an increase of 15.6%. Planning applications reached 424, equal to 91.2% of the previous full-year total.
The important qualification is that these are administrative processing totals. They do not mean 646 buildings were completed, nor do they prove that every application resulted in an approval. For buyers and developers, the figures are useful mainly as a signal that licensing throughput has accelerated and that the district continues to generate a substantial development pipeline. Actual construction timing still depends on project-level approvals, financing and execution.
