Greece has formally postponed the rule requiring rents to be paid through a designated bank account. AADE Decision A.1187/2026 moves the start date to 1 July 2027, resolving the uncertainty that surrounded earlier reports about another delay. ERT reported that the postponement gives the authorities time to complete transaction cross-checking with payment-service providers and gives landlords and tenants more time to adjust.
Until the new start date, current rent-payment methods remain available. The change matters for property investors because it affects compliance timing rather than the economics of a lease. Owners do not need to redesign payment procedures immediately, but the rule itself remains scheduled to take effect.
Anyone managing Greek rental property should therefore treat July 2027 as a future operational deadline, keep clear payment records and watch for implementing guidance closer to the date. The postponement should not be read as cancellation of the bank-account requirement.
