Construction activity in Bulgaria remained higher than a year earlier in August, but the latest month showed a mixed pattern. The National Statistical Institute reported that building-construction production increased 7.4% compared with August 2025, using calendar-adjusted figures. The broader construction index rose 4.2% over the same period. Civil-engineering work grew 4.2%, while specialised construction activities increased 0.8%. These figures indicate changes in construction production rather than the number of homes completed or the prices paid for apartments.
A different picture emerges from the month-on-month series. After seasonal adjustment, all construction increased 0.8% from July to August. Specialised construction activities rose 2.4% and civil engineering increased 0.5%, but building construction declined 0.4%. The difference between annual and monthly figures matters: relatively strong activity compared with last year does not mean that building work accelerated during the latest month.
NSI describes the data as preliminary and derives its construction indicators from information on hours worked by construction enterprises. For residential buyers and developers, the August release provides context about the pace of building activity across Bulgaria. It does not establish how many apartments are available in a particular city, whether projects will be completed on time, or whether local sale prices should rise.
