Bulgaria's construction sector remained larger than a year earlier in July, with output up 4.9%. Buildings were the strongest component at 9.5% growth, while civil engineering increased 5.0% and specialised construction activities slipped 0.2%.

The shorter-term signal was softer. Seasonally adjusted total production declined 0.6% from June. Specialised works fell 0.8%, civil engineering 0.5% and building construction 0.4%, so the monthly slowdown was broad rather than confined to one segment.

For real-estate investors, the split matters. Strong building output confirms active delivery and may support completions, yet weakness in specialised trades can still delay fit-out and handover. Annual growth therefore does not eliminate execution risk at project level.

The cleanest cross-market comparison is with Greece, where building activity also outperformed infrastructure in the second quarter. Together, the releases suggest private building work is carrying construction momentum in parts of south-eastern Europe while other segments are less consistent.
